The US government seeks to sell Nigeria attack planes for Boko Haram fight

The US government considers to sell up to 12 Super Tucano attack planes to Nigeria so as to back the fight against Islamist militants Boko Haram.

These propeller-driven planes can transport a range of weapons and can be used in the conduct of attacks and surveillance operations. American authorities want to bring more help with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. However, this sale requires the previous approval of the US Congress.

In spite of the recovery of territories by Nigeria's army in the north-east part of the country, the fight against the Boko Haram militants continues.

Some 17,000 people have lost their lives in this seven-year insurgency.
