About African Union, NEPAD and PIDA

Political Oversight

The African Union is a continental body consisting of 55 member states that make up the countries of the African Continent. Agenda 2063 is the AU strategic framework for delivering on Africa's goal for inclusive and sustainable development.

Agenda 2063 also identifies key activities to be undertaken in it's 10 year implementation Plans.

Regional Integration

The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) is responsible for implementing the continent's major projects for regional integration, with the close involvement of the private sector. AUDA-NEPAD is the development agency of the African Union, coordinating and executing priority regional and continental development projetcs to promote regional integration towards the accelerated realisation of Agenda 2063.

Infrastructure Projects

The Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) is a continent-wide program to develop a vision, policies, strategies and a programme for the development of priority regional and continental infratructure in transport, energy, trans-boundary water and ICT.

Project preparation

The New Partnership for Africa's Development Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (NEPAD-IPPF) Special Fund, hosted by the African Development Bank, is a leading project preparation facillity in Africa.

International Financing Institution

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) comprises:

  • The African Development Bank (AfDB)
  • The African Development Fund (ADF)
  • The Nigeria Trust Fund (NTF)

Shareholders comprise 54 African regional member countries and 26 non-African countries. The Bank has a 10-year strategy focused on inclusive and green growth with High-5 priorities: Light up and Power Africa, Integrate Africa, Industrialise Africa, Feed Africa and Improve the Quality of Life for Africans.
