President Nguema arrives in Ethiopia for state visit

Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema arrived in Ethiopia on Wednesday for an official state visit.

The 77-year-old was received in Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Foreign Minister H.E. Gedu Andargachew and other high-level government officials.

President Nguema and PM Abiy Ahmed later held bilateral talks focusing on strengthening relations between their countries, regional peace and the refugee situation.

The Equatorial Guinea President is also scheduled to meet other high-level government officials for wide ranging talks.

He will also visit the Psori Refugee Camp in Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State.

The African Union earlier this year launched an extensive campaign to highlight the plight of refugees in the continent.

Delegates at the 32nd AU Summit held a discussion on the status of displacements in Africa, under the theme: “Year of Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons: Towards Durable Solutions to Forced Displacement in Africa.”

Following that meeting, the AU appointed President Nguema as the campaign’s champion, to promote and raise hi-level support from continental and international players.

During his meeting with PM Abiy Ahmed, the Equatorial Guinea leader invited his host to plan a visit to his country.
